Hi, everybody. It’s me, Joneser. Since we commenters live in our parents’ basements and can’t have cable television, Steve’s fancy show recaps are just reminders of our failures as people. But those elitist bloggers agreed to give us poors a place to talk network television. Specifically, the best show on: Parks and Recreation.

I’m just going to assume that you all have seen all of the previous episodes and jump into what went down last night. (If you haven’t seen this show before, you should think seriously about your life and your choices.)

This was the Halloween episode. Man, TV shows love Halloween episodes, don’t they? April and Andy throw a big party, much to the chagrin of their increasingly joyless roommate, Ben Wyatt. Ben does the best fake “I’m not mad!” of anybody, ever, and that is including the very passive-aggressive me. Most people from the parks department show up to the party, making me wonder: don’t these people have any other friends?

Meanwhile, Leslie gets Tom and Entertainment 720 to throw an event for Leslie’s city council campaign. Leslie gets annoyed and calls the event a “party for Tom’s face,” which is right-on. I love Tom, but I kind of hate Tom, but I definitely loved the Tom rugs. I was glad when Leslie shoved his face underwater. (And I was also glad that Leslie got into a hot tub wearing a blazer. Very casual business casual.)

Back at the Halloween party, Ron makes the very Ron move of fixing shit at Andy and April’s house. Ron gets Ann to help (wha?) and OMG, are they going to get together?!?!? That is super weird and funny, so let’s hope so! Shirtless Andy wrestles Ben and, um, yeah, that is definitely just a girl banana in my pocket.

That thing with Chris dating Jerry’s daughter – while I get tired of Rob Lowe saying “LIT’RALLY,” it’s great to see Jerry miserable.

So, as we leave things: Ron and Ann: friends, or more? Will Ben be happy again? Will Tom turn things around at E-720? Where the fuck was Jean-Ralphio last night? And can we please not do more episodes when Ben and Leslie aren’t in the same room because I love their forbidden love?!

  2. Hi Joneser! I am loving this season of Parks and Rec so far. The writers are bouncing different characters off each other and giving the show some nice variation. And yeah, they’re totally withholding the inevitable Ben/Leslie confrontation.

    One thing that annoys me; Ben was never a “nerd” before this season. I feel like they had to give him more character since him and Leslie broke up, but it’s annoying when he’s moping around in a Batman costume.

  3. I am slowly watching Parks & Recreation, b/c I want it to last…so I can’t comment on the latest episode.

    However, I just made it through Season 3, Episode 15 where Chris makes some improvements to the department. I am literally beside myself with the vision of Ron in a circular desk. Although, I guess I’m not actually literally beside myself. I do literally love Ron Swanson, though.

    Shiiiiiit, I better get back to work.

    I’VE BEEN THINKING A LOT ABOUT RON SWANSON’S MOUSTACHE AND RON BURGANDY’S MOUSTACHE AND WALTER WHITE’S MOUSTACHE. I THINK THE MOUSTACHE IS ABOUT TO RREALLY RE-ENTER THE PUBLIC ARENA AS A SERIOUS THING.

    I think Ben was a bit of a nerd earlier — they set that up a wee bit with him and Tom, I think. There were a series of Star Wars insults and whatnot when he first showed up. His character has wandered a wee bit, though. As for his current behavior, I’m still trailing, so… Lord, I still need to get back to work.

  6. @ Jacob: I agree about this season, and also about Ben’s nerdiness. Remember when he first came on the show and he and Leslie got beers at like 10am? I don’t think current Ben would do that.

  8. I’m just saying that, generally speaking, guys who hang out around the house in Batman costumes don’t dress as awesomely well as Ben does.

    But hey, maybe they’re blowing up nerd stereotypes, instead of throwing them to the wolves like the reprehensible Big Bang Theory.

    I agree with your points on the show (and most things, generally), and will also gladly do the dishes.

    And I do think they’ve dialed up Ben’s nerdiness (to the point of calling it out explicitly).

  12. We’ve been watching this on Hulu, and I laughed so fricking hard when Ron was handed their “home repair kit.” I hope those two get together!
