The place where all the cool kids go, Dot's is a one-of-a-kind Portland icon of sorts. It's overpoweringly dark, but once your eyes adjust, you can enjoy velvet paintings of doe-eyed children, anti-drug posters from other countries, and more from their rotating collection of kitschy art. Dot's serves some fantastic junk food and a fine variety of classic cocktails and sodas (Lime Rickey anyone?). Jalepeño cheese fries, the Gentle Ben (the vegetarian version of the Ruben), the generously portioned Caravan Platter (falafel, hummus, olives, tomatoes, feta, pita), and a frosty PBR for me, please!

Sober and well-lit, Dots might not be too special. But with the lights low and a belly full of their delicious Lime Rickey, it's a can't miss location. Late night eats that are both cheap and plentiful, plus tons of leafeater options, too. Service can be hit or miss, but chances are, you'll be too drunk to notice.
Ahh, the Gentle Ben. One of the best vegetarian substitutes for a Ruben I've had in Portland. I like it so much I pretty much only order it every time I go, so I can't say much about the other food except maybe the jalapeno cheese fries which are fucking awesome (until the cheese congeals that is)!
I always get the pollo platter. It's just...perfect. A pile of chicken and cheese on rice, beans, tomatoes, lettuce, with tortillas. Kinda... perfect. Soups and chicken sammies are always good, and it's super dark even in the daytime, which makes it a great place to suffer through a hangover. Just add cheese fries.
Dot's is my favorite place to eat great vegetarian Mexican food and drink a pitcher of PBR. Super dark and romantic. Awesome.
