In news that is sure to break Powell’s*, Carrie Brownstein has a memoir coming out this year! Whoa! It’s called Hunger Makes Me a Modern Girl, and SURPRISE**: Brownstein tells NME it’s about Sleater-Kinney, not Portlandia, or Wild Flag***. Quoth Brownstein: “It pretty much ends with Sleater-Kinney going on hiatus, and a little bit of leading on from that. But it doesn’t even really go onto Portlandia.”

Anyway, here’s what Penguin has to say about it:

Before Carrie Brownstein codeveloped and starred in the wildly popular TV comedy Portlandia, she was already an icon to young women for her role as a musician in the feminist punk band Sleater-Kinney. The band was a key part of the early riot- grrrl and indie rock scenes in the Pacific Northwest, known for their prodigious guitar shredding and their leftist lyrics against war, traditionalism, and gender roles.

Oh, I find this description so quaint, right down to the inappropriately placed hyphens. Penguin wants you to know that they’re not a regular major publisher, they’re a cool major publisher! Still, I will read the heck out of this book. If you plan to as well, I recommend pre-ordering.

*If what happened with Kim Gordon’s memoir is any indication.
**Not really a surprise at all if you know that the title comes from “Modern Girl,” off The Woods. HARUMPH.
***Miss u, Wild Flag. :'(
