  • IT’S BACK!

Kickstand Comedy, the multiformat performance group that operated out of the basement of Velocult until the Fire Marshal shut it down last March, has found a new home: According to an email from Kickstand co-founder Dylan Reiff, the group will be running their programming out of a former classroom space above the Siren Theater, the brand-new venue opened by Bad Reputation Productions’ Shelley McLendon this fall. Kickstand’s first day of operation in its new space was yesterday,

“We’re converting into a comedy attic,” said Reiff. “We’ll be going back to operating Monday through Wednesday again, as we grow and get back to full strength.”

Monday nights will see stand-up open mics and podcast recordings, he added, and Tuesdays will feature an improv showcase. Wednesdays will be designated for monthly rotating comedy showcases. I’ll post more information on this as it comes in. In the meantime, it’s no surprise that the Kickstand folks have found a home adjacent to McLendon’s new theater. Mid-sized space for theater and comedy groups has long been at a premium in Portland, and McLendon told me back in September of her intention to make the space available to fellow performers.
