Let’s start with the sad. On Monday, Ray chef Jenn Louis self-published a post on Medium in which she explained for the first time her arrest following a domestic battery situation at her old restaurant, Lincoln, two years ago. Those charges were immediately dropped when police said the Louis acted in self-defense. Give it a <a href=”https://medium.com/@jennlouis_16555/i-was-arrested-for-domestic-violence-heres-why-cac203179291

Also, on Monday, Eater <a href=”https://pdx.eater.com/2018/4/30/17303114/xico-chef-kelly-myers-massive-stroke-nostrana-youcaring-fundraiser
“>reported another sad story, this one about Xico chef Kelly Myers, who recently suffered a stroke following an operation for an aneurism. According to that story, Myers is going to be okay, but it’s going to be a long road back to the kitchen, as she’s only starting to regain language and motor skills. To help her chef and her chef’s family, Xico owner Liz Davis has set up a <a href=”https://www.youcaring.com/kellymyersandfamily-1178913
“>YouCaring page to raise funds to get the family through until Myers can cook again.

This week, the Mercury <a href=”https://www.portlandmercury.com/blogtown/2018/05/03/19855361/former-andina-chef-de-cuisine-is-opening-her-own-cafe-in-piedmont
“>reported on Casa Zoraya, the new the soon-to-open modern Peruvian restaurant with Andina street cred that will start serving dinner and Sunday brunches in the Piedmont neighborhood in the next couple of weeks. We also broke down this spring’s newest summer cocktails, which you can now try at a bar near you. And if you read last week’s round-up, we had planned on giving the straight dope on Holiday, Duane Sorensen’s new plant-based bakery in his old Roman Candle spot, but two hours before we were to meet him, PoMo’s Karen Brooks broke the news before we could get to it. C’est la vie and good on her. You can read more about it here.

Over at the Oregonian, <a href=”http://www.oregonlive.com/dining/index.ssf/2018/05/pok_pok_wing_joins_lardo_with.html#incart_river_index
“>word came that Andy Ricker’s Pok Pok is joining Lardo by opening a new Thai joint at the Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas. And after a week or two or rumors, it <a href=”http://www.oregonlive.com/dining/index.ssf/2018/05/din_tai_fung_will_open_first_o.html#incart_river_index
“>confirmed that Taiwanese dumpling restaurant Din Fai Tung will indeed open its first location at the Washington Square Mall in outer SW Portland later this year.

And last but not least, Eater <a href=”https://pdx.eater.com/2018/5/1/17305040/food-news-james-beard-joshua-mcfadden-cookbook-vegas-pok-pok-lardo-pop-up-clarklewis-burgerville
“>reported that Tusk’s Joshua McFadden took home a James Beard Award for his new vegetable-based cookbook Six Seasons; that the Korean grocery chain H Mart <a href=”https://pdx.eater.com/2018/4/27/17287432/korean-grocery-h-mart-open-se-belmont-fall-2018
“>will take up new digs in the old Zupan’s space on Belmont; and, for all you culinary road-trippers, celebrated chef Peter Rudolph served the first of many dinners at Hey Jack, his new restaurant out in Camas.

Chad Walsh writes about Portland’s food scene and other stuff, too. He makes a mean carbonara and an even meaner chicken larb, and he’ll never muddle fruit in your Old Fashioned because he knows you...
