After a weekend of info leaks, Ubisoft finally officially announced Assassin’s Creed III this morning. The game runs on a brand new engine (that lets you climb trees), and is scheduled for release on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC at the end of October. Sometime after that, the company will also be releasing a Wii U version of the game.

But forget all of that. The important part here is that this new game takes place during the American Revolution. You play as a half-English/half-Native American assassin named โ€” I swear this isn’t a typo โ€” “Ratohnhakรฉ:ton.” He also goes by “Connor,” but since I’m having a lot of fun imagining how the hell that mid-name colon is supposed to be pronounced, I’m sticking with his full moniker.

As to what Ratohnhakรฉ:ton does in the game, things seem fairly typical for an Assassin’s Creed title; uncover conspiracy, climb things, stab jerks to death โ€” the only difference is that this time people will have stereotypical colonial British and/or Native American accents instead of the goofy Italian ones they had for the past few installments.

Here, have a trailer:

Regardless of whether that gets you hot, expect a steady stream of information on this game for the next six months or so.

  1. I’m so behind on my gaming that I have yet to the play the last AC, but conceptually this sounds and looks pretty damn great.
