When We Broke Up

I remember when we broke up, you pulled the all time middle school ghost move…stopped talking to me and hoped I would get the picture. You can’t exactly do that when our entire relationship was built off of uncomfortable interactions and long periods of no contact, no affection, no nothing.

But I really have to thank you. Despite your lack of affection (besides under the influence, yes, I could tell when you’d leave to get an extra shot of confidence) and stark exterior…you cared for me. Maybe not on an emotional level, but when I was crying and stressed you would hold me and tell me everything was alright. It always made me a little uncomfortable that you’d only ever show affection when I shower desperation but I cannot complain. You supported me through some of the most frustrating times of my life…and I am thankful for that.

I know you haven’t changed a bit but when I see you at parties I still feel such deep concern for you, and when you’re a dick I take it so damn personally as though it should matter. It doesn’t, I know that, but I can’t help feeling like there was no resolution to the fucking mess of a relationship we had.

Just…don’t do it again, okay? Don’t be a dick. Don’t ghost another someone, I mean for christ sake we dated for half a year and everyone was supportive of us…but while you’d down drinks to kiss me and hold me…you couldn’t down a single drink to say goodbye. So thanks, thanks for being awesome but also thanks, thanks for nothing.
