November 26 edition of NYT, lovingly profiling a face-punchable Nazi.

As dutifully reported in this week’s One Day at a Time, columnist Ann Romano wrote:

…the New York Times published a lengthy profile [last weekend] on an unknown American Nazi (who they call a “far right extremist” but fuck that—he’s a fucking Nazi), describing him in disturbingly normal terms. The reporter waxed poetic about the Nazi’s “muffin pan” and “pineapple slicer,” as well as his love of Seinfeld, Olive Garden, and—oh, yeah—white separatism. “There are times when it can feel toxic to openly identify as a far right extremist in the Ohio of 2017,” the NYT wrote, giving this previously no-name shithead Nazi a national stage on which to present his hateful views. Following an avalanche of negative feedback, NYT apologized for this Nazi puff piece—but did not explain why their reporter didn’t immediately knock every tooth out of that hate-monger’s head.

And while no one has yet knocked this Nazi’s teeth out of his head (at least as of this afternoon—though the day is still relatively young), the Nazi, his wife, and his brother-in-law have all been fired from their jobs. From the Washington Post:

[The fucking Nazi] said that he, his wife and his brother-in-law were fired Monday. All three worked at 571 Grill & Draft House, a small restaurant in New Carlisle.

The restaurant’s owners said in a statement Wednesday that they did not know of [the fucking Nazi]’s white nationalist views until the Times article was published. They said the article illustrated “some very disturbing images and thoughts” that they do not share.

The story goes on to report that the business was bombarded by social media messages following the NYT piece, and since the fucking Nazi and his wife may now also have to move out of their house—because they are fucking Nazis, and everyone rightfully hates fucking Nazis, and who wants to live next to fucking Nazis?—some of his fucking Nazi comrades have started a… pay attention to the spelling of this… “GoyFundMe” page to raise money for the fucking Nazi, who actually deserves whatever he gets (including face punching). Again, from WaPo:

According to the [crowdfunding] website, the Times article “resulted in a smear campaign” against [the fucking Nazi] and his wife. It claimed that “communists, antifa, and general basement-dwelling ne’er-do-wells set to work immediately, identifying their place of employment and harassing their management into terminating them.”

Boo-hoo-hoo, poor Nazi babies. I’m terrible with tech stuff… can someone maybe devise a crowd sourcing site called “GoPunchThem”? Thanks in advance!

Read the whole story here, it’s very interesting.

Bang bang, choo-choo train, let me see you shake that thang. Wm. Steven Humphrey is the editor-in-chief of the Portland Mercury and has held the job since 2000. (So don’t get any funny ideas.)
