20 volunteers from the second campaign to recall Mayor Sam Adams gave a press conference on the city hall steps this morning to ask citizens to please, sign a petition form already.
- RECALL 2 SPOKESWOMAN AVEL GORDLY (CENTER) AND BEAU BREEDLOVE (BEHIND HER, WITH SIGN)
Recall spokesperson, former state senator Avel Gordly, was joined by Beau Breedloveโthe former legislative intern who sparked the scandal when he contacted local media with the story about his involvement with the mayor. Breedlove showed up in shades, drinking a Rockstar energy drink.
“We’ve got well over 10,000 signatures so far,” said Gordly, in answer to a question about how far they have to go to reach the 32,000 signatures required to force a recall to the ballot. “I have an optimist gene I was born with. We still have 20 days.”
In addition to rejecting the politics of doing anything it takes to get elected, Gordly said she had heard a lot of criticism from people signing the petitions over recent days about the policy choices and the values that inform those choices, here at city hall. She said Adams’ lack of leadership and integrity are leading to “apathy and a lack of involvement” in city politics.
Breedlove reiterated that he felt the mayor had lied to the Attorney General about his kiss with Adams in a bathroom when he was 17. “He and I compared stories,” he said. “Everything I said to the Attorney General was what we agreed on.” “If I was gonna lie, I’d have said we’d had sex before I was seventeen.” “I’ve not turned on him, he turned on me.”

- BREEDLOVE: CAPTURED THE MAJORITY OF THE PRESS ATTENTION THIS MORNING

- RALLY: ALMOST OUTNUMBERED BY MEDIA

I don’t see a shot of the dead horse? Could someone photograph that and include it?
Was she optimistic when she was head of the Democrats for Gordon Smith? I imagine his loss to Jeff Merkley was probably because of apathy and lack of involvement too.
I bet I could get more people to a rally for the introduction of piranhas to the Willamette River than this rally got.
I love those sunglasses he is wearing.
Please, people of the media, remember that Beau Breedlove is a person too, and he just wants to be left alone!!!!!
Except when he has a chance to get on camera and remind everyone what a victim he is.
Why did the press even show up? This Recallยฒ effort has about as much going for it as Beau.
Someone needs to come up with a joke wherein the punchline is either: Beau-ner or LOL-lita. I’m kinda tapped out at the moment.. I’ll see what I can do later.
“rejecting the politics of doing anything it takes to get elected”
After she denounced the Democratic Party, became an independent for a few years, and then suddenly showed up on TV as a “Democrat for Smith” in 2008? Right, rejecting those anything-it-takes politics…..
The Disney animated version of this saga will show this scene with a prominent-yet-ambiguous beau-ner.
Happy, Abusive?
What a bunch of fameballs.
I blame Kiala.
How long before Beau attends one of those camps that “cures” gay folk and he begins his new career as a newly minted straight white christian?
Strange bedfellows.
Wow, thanks for the last pic. That tells the whole story! Could have photoshopped in some tumbleweeds…
I dunno, I thought the first recall effort was funnier than the second. Sequels are never as good as the original.
Uh, dimag05, may I remind you of Bad Boys II?
OK so I have a question:
Obviously the bulk of us Blogtownies realize that the Recallยฒ efforts are a big, fat, joke and everyone generally points and laughs.
If you go “over there” to the Boregonian (which I seldom do, but it’s like a car crash…sometimes you just gotta look), there are LOADS of idiots who support this kind of shit, or at least they say they do.
Where are they when the Recallยฒ people get together for these “rallies” (you can hardly call this a rally…more like a gathering…or huddle).
You’d think by the comments “over there” that they would be hanging around in droves. I’m guessing most of the supporters don’t even live in Portland. That would have a lot to do with the fact that they have so few signatures.
Interesting how so many outsiders seem to have such an interest in our choice of mayor. Hmm…
Have you ever seen anybody cool drinking a rockstar energy drink? Don’t think about it too hard, the answer is no .
You know Rockstar energy drink is owned by Michael Savage’s family and many gay people boycott it because of that. What a perfect completion to Beau’s embarrassment to the gay community. I love how Willamette Week pushed this thing because they were pissy Sam wouldn’t answer a question, then Beau joined this clown caucus because of his hurt feelings. Obviously, people’s bruised egos are sufficient to attempt to embroil a cash-strapped city in a useless, expensive election.

Godfather 2? Hello!!
The Empire Strikes Back.
Ok, points taken. But can we agree that Total Recall II is stinkin’ up the joint!
How clever dimag05,
A SNL skit throwback, though if you want to see something scary but not so funny, go to a city council meeting.
@media blogtown mentality
A SNL throwback was almost as funny as a rally almost attended by more members of the media than actual people participating in the rally.
Okay, let’s see what we have:
Recall 1: 176 a day ( http://blogtown.portlandmercury.com/Blogto… )
Recall 2: 142 a day (per this post)
And besides, getting to JUST 32,000 is a surefire way to lose thanks to high error rates. They need somewhere in the neighborhood of another 32,000, not 20,000.
This is all after the gay community and communities of color have already been manipulated all they can possibly be, paid signature gatherers, Wurster handing over all the previous signatures (apparently far less than half of them even wanted to sign Recall 2) and these grandstanding affairs.
Sorry, GOP fail.
All of this while Mercury bloggers stroke their online ego and the city falls apart.
Well done Blogtown, you showed them.
“(apparently far less than half of them even wanted to sign Recall 2)”
You’re assuming the first recall even got close to 30K. I know they *said* they did, but nobody actually knows if they did for real because they wouldn’t show anyone. The second recall was looming as the first was ending. If I were betting I would say the first recall trumped up their numbers to make it look like they were a lot closer than they were so more people would jump on board the second time around. They can say they didn’t do this all they want but the burden of proof is on them and so far they’re completely unwilling to share.
I still want to know who the paid signature gathering firm is that the second recall has employed. I wonder who owns it and who the signature gatherers are. Mostly I just wonder if it wasn’t a signature gathering firm created by the people already gathering signatures.
I predict this recall will get around 5,000 fewer signatures than the previous recall. The next recall campaign will get another 10,000 fewer.
It’s funny because I live Downtown and during the first Recall I saw many signature gatherers.
During Recallยฒ I didn’t see a single one. There was that stupid HQ they setup next to Peterson’s Mini Mart at the MAX station but that has long since been a ghost town. I think the HQ was only setup for a week before they closed up shop.
@ “Blogtown is not real” – What the fuck are you even talking about? Blogtown nor the Merc had anything to do with the Recallยฒ failure. It was a doomed effort form the start. Get over yourselves. The city isn’t “falling apart”. It’s moving forward at a pretty decent pace and many cities across America aspire to be Portland. Every major city in America has it’s problems. Portland is no different, and it has exactly jack-shit to do with Mayor Adams.
Fucking losers.
So is this recall or the last one about homophobia?
Were they ran by right-wing, religious assholes?
I’m confused about one of Beau’s statements — “If I was gonna lie, I’d have said we’d had sex before I was seventeen.” Did he mis-speak? Did he mean to say eighteen? That statement means they didn’t have sex before he was seventeen. Isn’t that what this whole thing’s about — the recall organizers don’t want a mayor who had sex with a minor and then lied about it? And if Beau just demolished the recall’s entire reason for existing, can’t we get them to shut up and shut down?
@entropy
Wurster posted his phone number many times in the past 503-799-7919, I am sure that he is pretty beaten down and a simple phone call may just do the trick.
Plus the re-re-callers were stupid enough to make a web site that tells you exactly where they are: https://secure.forwardsupport.com/cgi-bin/recall/where_to_sign.pl
Which strangely enough is Wurster’s company.
My suggestion is that over the rest of his pathetic life we make him pay dearly.
Umm, “stand up”, you’re getting seriously into teabagger territory there… I think Wurster is disingenuous and not very competent, and I’m definitely opposed to the Recall folks (not to mention I had a bad encounter with a surly signature gatherer of theirs), but there’s too much room for interpretation and for bad behavior in the phrase “make him pay dearly”, given what goes on in this country these days.
He has to learn eventual that his actions have consequences. Look what he did to this city. This whole mess is his fault. Day after day having to see his snarky face on TV and spouting disingenuous poppycock. Then there is the lack of competence in his work and the amount of city resources he wasted.
Really, Portland is better without him.
The question am I talking about Beau Breedlove, Sam Adams,Matt Davis,Randy Leonard,Jesse Jackson, Dan Saltzman, Scott Westerman, Jasun Wurster … it really does not matter in Blogtown as they all need to be “shut up and shut down”.
It is spelled ‘bigots’. Now you got shut down too, join the club.
In the playground rules of Blogtown an extra consonant is enough to get shut down.
Now I final get it, Blogtown blogggers are no better than any other click of people in which they use classicism to silence any opposition. No wonder why the Mercury is referred to as the Middle school paper.
Sorry about that, I guess I will go to the back of of the bus and no longer drink out of your fountain.
Jackattak , can you believe that boy don’t know how to spell. Quick, best get the clan of BlackedOut , Abusive, two squatting women and sweet little Kiala to put them in their place.
Now you *finally* get it. We are a *clique* who appreciate good spelling.
