Remember back when science and technology was supposed to be the saving hope for all mankind? HAR!! WOTTA LOAD OF BALONEY!! Anyway, advertising people jumped all over sci-fi tropes to sell their products, and Blastr has put together a great post featuring “17 cheesy TV ads that went all sci-fi (but really shouldn’t have).” Here’s one of my faves: “Martin Fine (of Martin Fine Furniture) vs. the Furniture-Sitting Moon Dolls of Mars!”

Also in this fun post: Pete Rose offering Kool-Aid to kids in an alternate Teletubby universe, Japanese RoboCop eating Japanese fried chicken, and Arnold Schwarzenegger popping out of girl’s head in order to sell something, something, something. (Sorry. Frankly I’m so astonished by this commercial, I don’t know what they’re selling.)

Bang bang, choo-choo train, let me see you shake that thang. Wm. Steven Humphrey is the editor-in-chief of the Portland Mercury and has held the job since 2000. (So don’t get any funny ideas.)
