By issuing a statement saying he didn’t do anything illegal because he’s not married to his girlfriend. Call me a stickler, but I didn’t think the city attorney’s primary role was criminal defense. And in any case, I’d be interested to see this argument tested in court.

O: Saltzman Was Shy About Disclosure
The Oregonian has picked up on Saltzmangate. Now the Commissioner is reneging on his position yesterday, citing shyness as a reason not to have made the disclosure: “In retrospect, maybe I should have done that (disclose his relationship),” he said, but he’s shy and the thought of announcing his private life and outing someone “who […]

What’s Important To Street Roots Vendors?
Nice little project up at the Street Roots website this weekend, photographs of a bunch of vendors holding placards that tell us what’s important to them: A bit inspiring, a bit heart-breaking at the same time. The fact that everyone really wants pretty similar things, and that we’re still so woefully inadequate at providing any […]

Saltzman, Cornett Take More Endorsements
The race for Dan Saltzman’s seat is starting to get a little fraught, with both sides securing more endorsements. Broadly, the insiders seem to be for Saltzman, while those wanting to see change at city hall seem to be plumping for Cornett. WILDER SCHMALTZ City Commissioner Dan Saltzman was enthusiastically endorsed by fellow city commissioner […]
It’s An Art Explosion For Collymore
COLLYMORE: COFFEE CUP ACTUALLY CONTAINS AN ART EXPLOSION Occasional Mercury arts writer and queer issue editor Stephen Marc Beaudoin has fallen head over heels for Multnomah County Commission candidate Karol Collymore, and he’s throwing her an “Art Explosion” event this Friday night. Among Collymore’s achievements on the campaign trail, it seems, is bringing about a […]
Why Wasn’t City Race In Candidates Gone Wild?
I was going to let this slide, but Bus volunteer Jake Oken-Berg got feisty in the comments on my Candidates Gone Wild post from Tuesday, asking if I’d asked anybody at the Bus on the record why the City Council race wasn’t included. So I asked Jefferson Smith, who runs the Bus, and here’s what […]
“Thanks for your testimony. Really appreciate it.”
Mayor Sam Adams has been sitting through the testimony on the new sit-lie law in council this afternoon. I’d be down there in person, but we’ve been doing endorsement interviews here at the Mercury, so I’ve been catching up on the end of the session over the council video. Best quote of the afternoon so […]
