EMA Another week, another Mercury music section to fold into a paper space antenna while you watch Sammy Hagar reenact his alien abduction. Hey Sammy, what about Gary Cherone? He’s an alien, right? That is the only thing that would explain the baffling success of Pornograffitti. We are absolutely obsessed with Past Life Martyred Saints, […]
Ezra Ace Caraeff
Ezra Ace Caraeff is the former Music Editor for the Mercury, and spent nearly a third of his life working at the paper. More importantly, he is the owner of Olive, the Mercury’s unofficial office dog. His writing has appeared in The Fader, The Stranger, The Onion's A.V. Club, ESPN's TrueHoop network, and countless fanzines that are thankfully long out of print. He makes a mean tofu scramble and yes, Ace is really his middle name.

It’s about time you pay attention to EMA.

The Mavericks and Blazers: not exactly a match made in heaven.
The Do-Over Returns to Portland
The Do-Over is coming back to Portland. In case you were unaware, the Do-Over is a monthly afternoon dance party that takes over the Produce Row patio on choice summer afternoons. I wrote about it last August, which was right after founders Jamie Strong, Aloe Blacc (who is kind of a big deal right now), […]
Blame it on Brandon Roy
Getty Images This shot did not go in It’s not Brandon Roy’s fault that the Portland Trail Blazers have dropped the first two games of their Western Conference playoff series against the Dallas Mavericks. It’s not Brandon Roy’s fault that his knees have tragically disintegrated right before our very eyes. It’s also not Brandon Roy’s […]
If You Read One Article About Andre Miller Today…
Getty Images …make it this one. The Oregonian‘s Jason Quick has just posted his second “Behind the Locker Room Door” (don’t let the title fool you, it’s far less erotic than your steamy Bernie Bickerstaff fan fiction) column which examines a few overlooked details of the team. Quick has unparalleled access to the Blazers and […]

This Week’s Mercury Music Section
Yuck Another week, another Mercury music section to flip through will you listen to your paper record player. Yes, paper. Meanwhile, I can’t make one stupid origami peace crane. Can we start referring to Yuck as Dinosaur Jr. Jr.? The British act brings back ’90s alt-rock, but in a good way. Admit it, you kind […]
It’s Dallas
Nice keffiyeh. The Portland Trail Blazers will head deep into the heart of Texas to face the Dallas Mavericks in the opening round of the Western Conference playoffs. Despite a near-meltdown, the Lakers beat the Kings in overtime, that, combined with a Dallas win, mean the Blazers are paired off with the Mavs. We’ll post […]
